Duke Epic Time, aka “Maverick,” is a 2021 AQHA bay roan gelding standing 14.3 hands and weighing 1100 lbs. He’s by a son of One Time Pepto (LTE $331,097) and out of a granddaughter of Paddys Irish Whiskey — a pedigree that speaks for itself. This gelding is the whole package: well built, well minded, and well broke.
Maverick has been in my program since the start of his two-year-old year and has always been a pleasure to own. He’s easy to catch, saddle, haul, and handle. He ties quietly, stands for the farrier and a bath, and gets along in both pasture and stall. He’s respectful, gentle, and consistent — no bad habits, no nonsense.
Under saddle, Maverick is soft in the face, responsive to leg pressure, and rides collected or on a loose rein. He side passes, opens gates, has a stylish turnaround, and a big stop. He’s confident outside alone or in a group, crosses water, ponies colts, and has even carried the flag. He’s been on the mechanical cow, started on the heel side and in breakaway, and scores quiet in the box. He rides smooth, stands to mount, and has even been ridden bridle-less. Tarps, dogs, hobbles — nothing phases him.
