This guy is the definition of tall, dark, and handsome! Ricky is a 6-year-old Percheron/Friesian cross gelding standing an impressive 17.1–17.2 hands. He’s built correctly and substantially — you can’t miss this breathtaking boy! He’s like the semi-truck of the horse world, without the dinner-plate feet. He’s broke to ride Western, English, and bareback — and YES, he’s comfy as a couch! Ricky is a true gentle giant with a soft eye and an equally sweet personality. ❤️
In the ring, Ricky will walk, trot, and canter both ways. He’s been brought along slowly, carefully, and correctly, making him simple, straightforward, and easy to ride. This gelding has stunning, ground-covering movement that makes you feel like you’re gliding through the air. He has a soft feel in the hand and is very light on his feet for such a big guy. His trot is extremely comfortable and easy to sit, and he’s learning to collect and extend. His favorite speed is probably slow — he’s definitely a push ride and will never go faster than you ask. His canter continues to improve, with balanced transitions and consistent leads. While he appreciates encouragement to stay forward, he is always willing and eager to please. He stops on a dime off a “whoa” or simply your seat. He’s been lightly started over jumps and is showing nice potential. Overall, Ricky is an extremely quiet and safe ride — one you’ll look forward to pulling out every time. He’d be suitable for an AA, or even a beginner working with a trainer. 🤩
On the trail, Ricky is that steady-eddy type everyone wants. He’d make a fantastic husband or guest packer! He’s happy to lead or follow and doesn’t mind another horse getting into his personal space. You can ride him on the buckle, and he’ll mosey along wherever you point him. He has excellent manners out and the very best brain. He’s been on many trail rides with us, and we’ve even ridden him into town. Traffic and semi trucks don’t faze him at all. Ricky is the go-to guy for a relaxing ride — crack a beer, sit back, and let the worries melt away. He’ll go through water, canter open fields, or bushwhack through thick forest. He’s truly a point-and-go ride you can depend on to get everyone back to the barn safely. He really enjoys going out, and we could easily see him excelling as a trail partner or in fox hunting, paper chases, and hunter paces. ✨
In the barn, Ricky is well-mannered and respectful. He stands quietly on the ties for grooming, tacking, bathing, clipping, or simply being fussed over for hours. He enjoys attention and loves his people. He has a calm, quiet personality and respects your space — though he’ll be happily in-your-pocket once the cookies come out! 😆 He has zero bad stall or turnout habits and gets along well with others. Ricky is currently barefoot with nice, solid feet and is always well behaved for the farrier. He loads easily on the trailer and maintains his same quiet, steady demeanor both on and off property.
Ricky lunges, does groundwork, and has completed our desensitization program with flying colors. He’s a true gentleman, and once he realizes you’re his person, you’ll have a best friend for life. We’re excited to see Ricky’s future and want only the very best home for this gentle giant. ❤️
