The Spotted Saddle Horse is not a horse breed in the proper sense but a breeding program, which specialises in gaits and a beautiful inheritance of piebald. Therefore, breeding in general is not dependent on a breed or a particular pedigree. This leads to significant differences of these hors ... More about the horse breed Spotted Saddle Horse

Meet “Jag”!
This stunning, 3-year-old registered Spotted Saddle horse gelding checks all the boxes and then some.

Jag stands 15.3 hands tall and has great feet and bones. He is shod all the way around and up to date on all veterinarian, farrier, and dental work. He is wrapped in the most beautiful black-and-white color with a thick mane and tail and great conformation!

This colt had a slow and steady start to his two-year-old year. With more than 120 days under saddle, he’s had a wonderful foundation following the Clinton Anderson Method.

Although groundwork is not required to get on, he’s been through all the basics: lunges, round pens, flexes, backs up, stands for desensitizing, and works over obstacles with ease. He is good for the farrier and vet and also stands well for saddling, bathing, grooming, and lowering his head for bridling.

The majority of Jag’s training has been done in a snaffle bridle. He is soft laterally and vertically and has great shoulder and hip control and the start to a true and correct neck rein.

I’ve ridden and started a lot of Tennessee Walkers and Spotted Saddle horses, and what stands out to me the most about this stellar gelding is just how balanced he is! He has got to be the most correct loper I’ve ever ridden as far as gaited horses go. He picks up both leads with ease and is strong and cadenced in his lope both inside and outside the arena. Not to mention, he is also incredibly well gaited. He has a slow and medium-speed gait on a draped rein.

Although the majority of Jag’s training has taken place riding outside solo, he has also been exposed to riding in a group. I’ve pushed cows and wild broodmares on him, as well as riding down the road, through the woods, water, ditches, gullies, traffic, etc. He has been hauled and has easily loaded into various trailers.

This gelding has a great work ethic and gentle demeanor. I’d describe his style under saddle as lukewarm. He is willing to move forward when asked but has not been hot and is always willing to travel on a loose rein. Due to my show schedule, he is accustomed to having time off, and I have pulled him out after two or three days off, saddled him up, and rode off with no issues.

The ideal home for Jag would be somebody who enjoys trail riding, arena work, clinics, and groundwork. He is the type of horse that never says no and enjoys having a little job. Any horseman who enjoys bringing along young horses with a great handle/start will have a spectacular gelding that will last many years.

Jag has been hobble-trained as well.

I’ve enjoyed every minute of having Jag in my program. The only reason he is for sale is that he has just gotten too large for the owners, who were hoping this horse would be a fun project for their granddaughter. It’s not been an easy decision for them, as finding another young horse as spectacular as Jag will be hard.

I would absolutely love to keep this amazing young horse in my program. After a summer of riding and more miles, I don’t see why he wouldn’t be suitable for just about anyone.

If there is anything I did not cover in my video that somebody would like to see, please reach out to me personally.
